The Alsace cycling tour for women is a truly unique and memorable experience. You will explore a part of the region that is nestled between the beautiful Vosges mountains in France and the borders of Germany and Switzerland .

The Alsace region is rich in tradition and combines a number of cultures. The beauty of the region's traditional architecture will charm you village after village with pretty half timbered houses with brilliantly colored flowers.

The famous Route du Vin (wine route) encompasses at least 100 wine producing villages between Strasbourg and Colmar , creating some of France 's best wines.

You will feast on gourmet cuisine and experience gastronomy in refined and traditional dishes like the famous baeckeofe.

Your guide is an expert Brit who has lived in Alsace for more than 15 years and who has been involved in cycling tours for several decades.

Bike Rentals

Gitane Hybrid. Bikes come with removable handelbar bag with map reader, tire repair materials, bottle cage, lock, 1 water bottle, and computer, mirror, mud guards. Helmets included. Gel saddle available for supplement. We will install your pedals if you wish to have clipless and bring them. Bikes are 21 speed, fork and saddle suspension.

Itinerary

Sept 21: We will arrive at the beautiful village of Eguisheim , a unique medieval village built in concentric circles around central fortress, home to Alsace 's pope, Saint Leon IX.  There will be a tour introduction and we will be fitted with our bikes and equipment.  During a short warm-up ride on the small vineyard roads we will enjoy a crèmant and wine tasting with our sommelier at the charming wine village of Pfaffenheim .   Overnight Eguisheim. Dinner Eguisheim.(D)

Day 2/Sept 22: After breakfast, we head out on a circular route that takes us along small roads through Grand Cru vineyards. We will have splendid views of the Vosges mountains, the Plain of Alsace and the Black Forest Mountains .  We pedal through wine villages such as Westhalten and Soultzmatt, set in the heart of the vines, and the town of Rouffach with its cathedral, witches tower and stork park. En route we may have a wine tasting in my home village of Voegtlinshoffen . On our return to Eguisheim we have the opportunity to explore the village centre. Challenging Option : The “Little Switzerland” Challenge through pine forests and open countryside visiting the quaint hilltop Val du Pâtres Chapel. Overnight Eguisheim. Dinner not included.Distance : 35 km or 50 km (B)

Day 3/Sept 23: After our morning briefing, we pedal out on through vineyards and fortified Alsacian villages to Riquewihr. At the wine village of Turckheim there is a night watchman that patrols the ramparts. Riquewihr is a picture perfect jewel with its multi-colored flowers and cobblestone streets.  In the evening we can stroll around the medieval centre of the village and admire the ancient stone and half-timbered buildings. 
Challenging Option : The “Cinq Châteaux” Challenge through the Vosges Mountains on a winding forest road passing five castles. Overnight Riquewihr. Dinner Riquewhir.
Distance : 20 km or 35 km (B,D)

Day 4/Sept 24 : A nice relaxing cycling ride to Colmar , a small town that is full of beauty, culture and history.  The maze of cobbled streets gives the impression that one is walking in a bygone age.  Perfect picture postcard spots such as ‘La Petite Venise' (Little Venice) and Grunwald's 15th century masterpiece at the Unterlinden Museum must be seen! On our way we visit the medieval town of Kaysersberg , home of Albert Schweitzer. The more energetic may want to walk up to the impressive castle that dominates the town. Challenging Option : The “Welch Country” Challenge takes us up into the mountains through the stunning countryside, returning through the wine town of Ribeauvillé . Overnight Riquewhir. Dinner Riquewhir at a 1* Michelin restaurant. Distance: 35 km or 50 km (B,D)

Day 5/Sept 25: Today we cycle northwards along ‘La Route du Vin'. We will pass through many exquisite, typically characteristic Alsacian wine villages such as the fortified villages of Bergheim and Dambach-la-Ville on our way.  We will be overlooked by the majestic castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg , perched on top of a mountain and you will learn its incredible history.   Ottrott is a village famous for its red wine “Ottrott Rouge”, overlooked by the convent of Mont Sainte Odile.  Our hotel is situated in 100 acres of woodland, with a stream and scenic pond on the edge of the old village. Challenging Option : The “Graveyard” Challenge take us up to a unique fortified 8th Century church. Overnight Ottrott. Dinner Ottrott. Distance:50 km (B,D)

Day 6/Sept 26: Today we head out on a route that takes us right into the centre of the European capital – Strasbourg – one of the greenest cities in the world. Our route follows alongside canals and rivers, passing through lush meadows and woods.  One has the impression that one is in the heart of the countryside before emerging onto the quaint cobblestone streets of ‘La Petite France', one of the most beautiful quarters of Strasbourg . Challenging Option : The “Miracle” Challenge is a tough one pedaling right up to the convent of  Sainte Odile and drinking from a “medicinal spring”. Overnight Strasbourg . Dinner Not included. Distance : 40 km or 60 km (B)

September 27 : Departure Day; if you want, we can arrange additional stays in the beautiful city of Strasbourg , capital of Europe ! (B)
