HUNGARY - Cycling from Vienna to Budapest along the Danube River!
A 7 night program to discover the many charming towns and villages between 2 must see historically rich grand villes: Vienna and Budapest. In Budapest you can visit the old quarter and the UNESCO world heritage sites.
Impressive monuments, sumptuous palaces and exquisite architecture are some of the things you can see in the heart of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire. From Vienna cycle along the Hungarian side of the Danube through Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
Continue into Hungary where you will stay in the historical towns of Györ and Esztergom. The artist's town of Szentendre contains
many galleries, museums and cafes. The mix of cultural landmarks and rustic, riverside fields and meadows makes for a relaxing cycle tour.

Day 1 | Arrival Day
Installation in your hotel - orientation and delivery of the rental bikes - Explanation road book, map material, bike routes info. With free time, you can visit the medieval historical city centre of Bruges: a short city walk will show you the Markt (Market square) with Belfry and Halles, Oude Burg (Burg Square) with Basilica of the Holy Blood and City Hall, Church of Our Lady (Notre Dame) and Cathedral. During a roundtrip by boat on the city canals (preferably at night), a horse-drawn cab or minicoach you will discover a rich architecture. Superior 3 star hotel Center Brugge, dinner on your own.

Day 2 | Vienna - Bad Deutsch / Altenburg (55km)
The The first day on the tour takes you along the Danube river valley to the town of Bad Deutsch / Altenburg. The route is almost entirely flat and so even at 55 km this is a relatively easy start. You remain in Lower Austria but approach the Slovak border. Night in charming pension and dinner on your own. (B)

Day 3 | Bad Deutsch / Altenburg - Bratislava - Mosonmagyarovar (60km)
C Today's ride brings you briefly through Slovakia via Bratislava with its historical old town centre. Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and though a relatively small city it is rich in history and culture and worth spending a couple hours to visit. Then it's on to Hungary, where the days ride finishes in Mosonmagyarovar. This town is located in the meanders of a small river coming off and following the Danube. Day 4 | Mosonmagyarovar - Gyor (45 km)
You ride between Mosonmagyarovar and Gyor today, which winds its way through farming pastures. The cycling route is broken up by small, farming towns. The destination of today‘s route is the city of Gyor. This town, originally a Hungarian stronghold from A.D.900, has also a superb cathedral from the 12th century. Day 5 | Gyor - Tata (60 km)
Cycling not far from the Danube's riverflow in this rustic, farming landscape, you will finish in the town of Tata, city of waters, situated on lake Tatal. Overnight in Tata. Dinner on your own - we suggest a nice spot overlooking the lake! Cycling paths around the lake make a nice add on. (B)

Day 6 | Tata - Esztergom (55km)
Today the route goes through forested landscape with an ascent to cover but after that it is a straight run to Esztergom. This town has an immense cathedral, the largest in Hungary, dating from 1822, which incorporates an earlier, renaissance church from the 16th century. Overnight in Esztergom. (B)

Day 7 | Esztergom - Budapest (65 km)
Cycling along the Danube river valley gets you to the small town of Visegrad. Continue on to the town of Szentendre with its many churches, galleries and arts, and the opportunity to visit the river island of the same name. This town is really a gem of the tour. Finally you finish in Budapest. This magnificent city, once a centre of the Austro-Hungarian empire, boasts incredible architecture and its thriving centre offers many things to do. Day 8 | Departure Day
You can depart on your own today. Leave the bikes at the hotel. Or, add some extra nights to have more time to explore Budapest; ask us for hotel add-ons. Trains back to Vienna are possible but are rather long. Catching a departing flight out of Vienna is probably not possible on the same day. (B)

1190 Euros per person, double occupancy. Single supplements 350 euros when 2 or more persons. Solo travelers have an added 15% supplement.

Trip includes:all lodging, breakfast daily, luggage transfers, local emergency support, cell phone rental (for local calls only), transportation as in program, orientation, riding routes with maps and cue sheets, suggestions for visitation and dining, bike delivery, pickup, fitting, and fully equipped rental for the duration with GPS (1/group or couple).
A guided tour can be arranged along this same itinerary with a minimum of 4 persons. The price is slightly higher per person at 1495 euros, based on double occupancy and includes all the same items plus guide, support van, and some guided visites at selected sites. In addition, other activities can include canoeing, horseback riding, and multisport itineraries. To join a guided group, dates are available July 18-25 and August 23-30.
